Waterloo Regional Police say damage is pegged at approximately $200,000 after a fire at an apartment complex in Kitchener.
Firefighters were called to 565 Belmont Avenue around 4 a.m. on Friday.
All residents were able to get out safely.
Red Cross officials were also at the scene to assist with providing shelter and supplies to the displaced residents, estimated to be approximately 21 people.
Police say it appears the fire was caused by an electrical problem.
Michelle Calder who lives within the complex told 570 NEWS the fire started above her. She said that the upstairs neighbours heard crackling in the ceiling before they saw smoke.
“I'm very upset. It's just before Christmas. We're homeless now. We can't go in our units. I'm just upset that this all happened.”
