50th annual K-W Oktoberfest officially begins today

There will be a special keg tapping outside Kitchener City Hall over the noon hour.

2018 marks the 50th year of Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest, North America's largest Bavarian festival.

The opening ceremonies begin at 11:15 a.m. at Carl Zehr Square.

Honoured guests and dignitaries will be joined by K-W Oktoberfest President, Margo Jones as well as Miss Oktoberfest, Sandra Dynka.

In addition to the keg tapping, there will be music and dancing.

Grillefest will also be set up near city hall.

From 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., you can get an Oktoberfest sausage on a bun, cookies and a drink, all for $5.

All proceeds go to The Food Bank of Waterloo Region.
