Golden bikes pop up all around Waterloo Region

By Aastha Shetty

Golden bikes have begun popping up around the region without any signage or explanation.

It's all a part of a campaign called Cambridge Heart of Gold, by Paul McKinney.

He says his goal is to raise awareness for childhood cancer.

“I placed these gold bikes around Cambridge, without any signage or information as to what they are, relying solely on social media. People asking for questions, looking for answers and coming to my page, Cambridge Heart of Gold.”

McKinney's motivation for starting the campaign are very personal.

“My son, just under two years ago, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour and childhood cancer has become my life 24/7. I feel a need to be a voice for these children, as all of us parents do… and I think I have found a way to do that,” he told 570 News.

McKinney says he is thrilled to have been receiving support from all over the nation.
