Gas prices going up 8 cents

Gas price watcher and Liberal MP Dan McTeague tells 570 News gas prices will go up 8 cents a litre when the HST kicks in tomorrow.

That means it will be back above a dollar a litre, and McTeague tells us this could be the last of the sub-dollar days for fuel.

He says this is the single, largest increase in gasoline prices since September 2008 when Hurricane Ike slammed into the Texas Gulf coast region disrupting oil production, and driving up gasoline prices by around 12 to 13 cents a litre.

He says taxes will now represent 35 to 40 per cent of what you pay for gas.
