WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Public Library has put the children’s book, “Tintin in America,” back on its shelves but has moved it into the adult graphic novel section because of its stereotypical depictions of indigenous people.
Originally written in the 1930s by Belgian cartoonist Herge, the book tells of the adventures of a young reporter named Tintin and his dog Snowy and his encounters with members of a Blackfoot tribe and Chicago gangsters.
The library had originally pulled the book off its shelves completely but after a review it was determined it should be put in the adult section.
That way, the book will be available for parents and adults to access if they so choose.
The library says individuals can use the book for research purposes or to carry on discussions with their children.
