Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada has pledged $65, 000 to Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region for a development on Howe Drive in Kitchener.
That’s after being inspired by a group of their employees who raised $30, 000.
Craig Chaytor, a Group Leader with TMMC tells 570 News he was inspired to help after seeing a TV news segment on a man who had volunteered his time, “he had a whole street named after him for building so many homes. My wife and I looked at each other and she said ‘you should get the Toyota guys together and raise money and do that yourself.’ So my wife was the one that originally got it going, she’s been very helpful with watching the kids when I’m doing the events and helping out with the fund raising.”
Jerry Lawlor, Director of Development with Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region, tells 570 News, Toyota team members can sign up to volunteer at the factory, “they’re signing up internally at Toyota and they’re being organized from that point of view and then they come to our site when they’re available.”
Lawlor adds the build should take 6 weeks, weather permitting.
