Police find body at Guelph apartment, charge man with murder

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

The Guelph Police Service has made an arrest in a murder case that started earlier this week when a body was discovered at an apartment building.

The discovery happened Tuesday when officers were called to do a well-being check on a tenant who lived on Woolwich Street near Speedvale Avenue.

Once inside the apartment, emergency responders found a 51-year-old man unresponsive.

He was pronounced dead and it was later determined he actually died about two weeks prior, on or about Oct. 21.

While the cause of death has not been released, police say a post-mortem examination revealed the man’s death was a homicide.

Police have now charged a 25-year-old man with no fixed address with second-degree murder. He was already in police custody on unrelated matters.

The accused appeared in bail court on Friday.

While the Major Crime Unit continues to investigate, Guelph police say there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
