Tractor trailer crashes into construction barrier, closes Hwy. 6

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) had a full highway closure in place for about 15 hours after a crash and diesel spill on Highway 6 through Freelton.
The collision just before 4:00 a.m. Monday reportedly involved a tractor trailer crashing into a construction barrier blocking the northbound lanes of traffic. OPP said the truck was transporting steel.
The truck then crossed all lanes and hit the barrier on the other side of the highway, spilling diesel into the ditch.
OPP expected the full closure of Highway 6 near Concession Road 12 East, south of Campbellville Road to last until 10 a.m., a full six hours later.
However, in an update shortly after 10 a.m., police said the highway likely would not reopen until closer 3 p.m. due to “environmental remediation of the diesel spill and concrete barrier repair and replacement.” That closure was then extended until 7 p.m. for further clean up and repairs.
Charges are expected to be laid. Police said no one was hurt, and no other vehicles were involved.
