Duo from Cambridge arrested, charged after suspected wire theft

Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) say they have charged a man and woman from Cambridge after they were arrested during a possible theft in progress.
On Saturday morning, around 6:00 a.m. police responded to a reported theft in progress on Branchton Road near Morrison Road in North Dumfries.
When officers arrived, they found a portion of wire had been cut between two telephone poles. Two individuals, a man and a woman, were located nearby and were arrested on the scene.
Following an investigation, police have arrested a 29-year-old man and woman from Cambridge.
The pair are charged with:
- Theft over $5,000
- Mischief over $5,000
WRPS say they encourage businesses and site operations to be proactive when preventing similar thefts by doing the following:
- Securing materials in locked buildings, containers, or fenced compounds
- Storing valuable items out of public view whenever possible
- Posting clearly visible No Trespassing signs
- Installing and maintaining video surveillance systems
- Ensuring storage areas and access points are well lit
- Restricting site access and regularly inspecting gates, locks, and other security measures
- Marking materials, where appropriate, and conducting routine inventory checks
