The Mike Farwell Show gets heated for Hot Ones challenge

As reward — and punishment — for raising $186,760 for cystic fibrosis research, Mike Farwell, of Farwell4Hire, eats spicy wings live on his show.

Things got heated on The Mike Farwell Show on Monday.

Farwell had promised to take part in a “Hot Ones” challenge live on his talk show on 570 NewsRadio to help raise the jackpot in the Farwell4Hire 50/50.

The take-home prize surpassed the designated milestone and reached $93,380 for winner Sandra Kuttis, while the same amount was donated to Cystic Fibrosis Canada.

The 50/50 ended last week so Farwell kept his word, and had a little help from his friends to get the job done.

Jay Taylor of Morty’s Pub provided the chicken wings, Orest Poluch of Nickel Brook Brewing provided some refreshments, and Kris Ronan of Ginger Goat Hot Sauce curated the sauces.

“So what I’ve assembled here is a grouping of sauces that are going to go from something mild to literally one of the hottest peppers — the hottest pepper — in the world towards the end,” said Ronan.

That prompted an exasperated “Jiminy Christmas” from Farwell, who began to dig into the fiery wings.

At first, Farwell started strong and fought up the spice. Near the end, he seemed to be fighting for his life.

“You’re going into survival mode here,” laughed Ronan.

“I’m going to put my finger into the sour cream,” Farwell said.

“He’s turning feral on the other side of the table.”

The heat dial got turned up to 11 by the eighth wing, which was coated in the notorious sauce “Da Bomb,” which often brings celebrities to tears. Farwell didn’t fare much better.

“That hurts all the way,” pained Farwell. “That was unbelievable. That hurts.”

He ultimately made it through the ninth and final chicken wing, and stomached the entire challenge while wearing a jersey for his most hated hockey team, the Montreal Canadiens.

Farwell thanked everyone who contributed to Farwell4Hire and the 50/50 in support of CF research.
