Kitchener house fire causes $100,000 in damage, one sent to hospital

Seven fire trucks responded to a blaze at a triplex on Guelph Street in Kitchener Monday afternoon.
The Kitchener Fire Department said crews responded to the home following reports of smoke coming from the attic.
Structural damage occurred to the roof rafters, but the fire is not being considered suspicious.
Damage is estimated to be $100,000 for both the building and the contents within.
Eight residents living in the home at the time of the fire have been displaced, and the City of Kitchener said support has been provided to them.
One of the residents was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Regional police were on scene during the fire to assist is closing Weber Street West at the intersection of Guelph Street, though roadways fully reopened around 5 p.m. Monday.
