Officials are asking for answers in the disappearance of Amber Ellis, a woman from Hagersville with ties to Cambridge, as police detail newly released information on the fifth anniversary since she was first reported as missing.
Ellis, who was 32 years old at the time she disappeared in March 2021, was last seen at a residence in Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation in the latter half of February, the month prior.
“Amber is described as 5’9” (175 cm) and 120 lbs (54 kg) with a thin build, long dark hair and brown eyes,” said Haldimand County OPP. “She has ties to the Brantford, Cambridge, Hamilton and Norfolk County areas.”
Since then, the investigation through the Haldimand County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has had numerous searches, interviews, submitted tips, and various public appeals.
“It’s horrible for us, it’s horrible for her children,” said Ellis’s mother in a video produced by OPP. “Just having the kids here reminds us every day, every minute.”
Ellis’s mother was the one to report her as missing on March 8, 2021, adding that it’s been a battle for the family over the course of five years. She said it was a sudden change that is constantly felt.
“She just disappeared off the face of the Earth,” she said in the video. “All communications, all phones, all texting, all social media; it just stopped.”
While little remains known about the circumstances in the case, OPP has now released some new information regarding the ongoing investigation and what may have happened in the events leading to her disappearance.
“Shortly before her disappearance, she may have been involved in a confrontation in the Eagle Place neighbourhood in Brantford,” said OPP, adding that it’s likely foul play was involved in the incident.

A $50,000 reward is being offered through the Government of Ontario for anyone who is able to provide information that leads to the arrest and conviction of any individuals responsible for Ellis’s disappearance.
“Somebody knows something,” said Ellis’s father in the video from OPP. “Help us. Help us find her and bring her back home.”
