Teen charged in university district stabbing

A 15-year-old boy is now facing a list of charges, arrested in connection with a stabbing in Waterloo’s university district that sent one victim to hospital.

It was just after 7 p.m. on March 27 when regional police responded to an assault call in the Phillip Street and University Avenue West area of Waterloo, just a short distance away from Wilfrid Laurier University.

Upon arrival, officers found a 15-year-old male suffering from stab wounds, transporting him to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police had previously indicated that they believed the stabbing to be a targeted incident.

Providing an update on Wednesday, police said a 15-year-old had since been arrested and charged with several offences including:

  • Assault cause bodily harm
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purose
  • Carry a concealed weapon

That youth was held in police custody for a bail hearing.
