23-year-old in serious condition after being struck by vehicle in Waterloo

A young man is in hospital after being struck by an SUV early Wednesday in Waterloo.

It was just before 5 a.m. on Wednesday when regional police announced a closure on King Street North between Hickory Street West and Columbia Street.

Providing an update around 7 a.m., a spokesperson with the service said the closure was in response to a collision involving a pedestrian.

As a result, a 23-year-old was hit by a vehicle and sent to an out-of-region hospital in non-life-threatening condition, police said.

King Street North reopened at Hickory Street West just before the noon hour on Wednesday.

Police are investigating the incident and are asking anyone with information to contact its traffic unit.
