Multiple road closures in New Hamburg, flood warnings issued

The Grand River Conservation Authority has issued a flood warning for New Hamburg, following the weekend’s warmer weather and rainfall.

The GRCA has updated its flood messages for New Hamburg to say that river flows are expected to reach Flood Warning Zone 1, and could extend to Flood Warning Zone 2.

A number of roads have been closed as a result of the flooding, including:

  • Holland Mills Road, New Hamburg, from Bleams Road to Huron Road
  • Milton Street, New Hamburg, from Shade Street to Hannah Street
  • Union Street, New Hamburg, from Huron Street to Burns Street
  • Lisbon Road, Wilmot, from Nafziger Road to the east end
  • Wilby Road, Wilmot, from Nafziger Road to Sandhills Road

A flood warning is also in effect for Ayr and West Montrose, while the rest of the Grand River watershed is under a flood watch.

Residents are reminded to exercise extreme caution around any local waterways, and keep any pets or children away from watercourses.
