Parking bans in place Wednesday after snowfall

Environment Canada issued another special weather statement calling for more snow on Wednesday afternoon, but it was lifted before 5 p.m.

It follows a slow, snowy commute that snarled traffic as 5-10 cm of snow fell across Waterloo Region overnight Tuesday into early Wednesday morning.

Both the cities of Kitchener and Cambridge declared snow events to clear the local roadways on Wednesday.

Callers to the 570 NewsRadio traffic centre said the morning Highway 401 commute was especially slow coming in from Woodstock, with some drivers keeping speeds to just 40 km/hr.

Similar snowy conditions were reported on Highway 7/8 between New Hamburg and Kitchener.

“You may just want to set your alarm clock just a little bit earlier to prepare for that commute,” said Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sgt. Ed Sanchuk. “Make sure you entire vehicle is brushed off, all of your windows, if you can’t see it, how can you avoid it.”

A warm-up, however, is expected for Friday, with a predicted high of 6 C under a sunny sky.
