Freezing rain and strong winds are set to batter Waterloo Region on Wednesday, leading to cancellations and the potential for power outages.
Environment Canada is out with an orange warning as 5 to 15 mm of freezing rain and ice pellets fall on the region and surrounding areas.
This has led to bus cancellations across Waterloo Region and Guelph; however, all classes are set to go ahead as planned.
“Very difficult driving, it can be so deceiving because we also have rain forecasted, then at times, it freezes on contact,” said 570’s Weather Specialist Denise Andreacchi.

Temperatures set to drop throughout the day, leading to lows of -3 C overnight on Wednesday and into Thursday.
“In addition to the rain and the ice, we have this potential of snow and ice later on,” added Andreacchi. “This freeze-thaw cycle is going to continue, and we’re really running the risk of quite a few icy patches.”
By the time the weekend rolls around, temperatures are set to drop to -6 C.
