Your collection day could be changing as large carts rollout in two weeks

As Waterloo Region approaches the launch date of the new cart based waste collection program, some new information is being made available to residents.

With all the adjustments, there may have been changes to your collection day.

Residents can now visit the region’s curbside collection page and enter their address to find their collection day, which weeks are for garbage and which are for other collections.

A waste collection calendar will also be distributed by the region, with more details.

If confusion still exists, residents are encouraged to call the Service First Contact Centre at 519-575-4400.

Cart based collection begins March 3, 2026, with it the following collection schedule:

  • Garbage collection (black carts) will remain every other week
  • Organics collection (green carts) will remain weekly
  • Bulky item collection will move to once a month
  • Yard waste collection will remain every other week, spring to fall

Circular Materials is responsible for residential recycling collection and will do so, opposite of waste collection dates.

The carts will be collected by trucks equipped with a mechanical arm. Carts should be placed two feet (approx. 0.5 m) apart with the arrows facing the street and handles facing your home.
