By CityNews Kitchener Staff

An arrest has been made following a fatal stabbing in Kitchener’s west end on Friday afternoon.

Waterloo Regional Police Services (WRPS) said it was called regarding a possible stabbing at a home in the area of Garden Path Place and Country Stone Crescent at around 4:30 p.m.

Initially, police said one person suffered life-threatening injuries, and a search was initiated for a male suspect.

In an update Friday night, police said the man was found dead inside a residence when they arrived, with the initial investigation helping officers to identify and locate a potential suspect.

Soon after, they arrested a 26-year-old Kitchener man, who was taken into custody.

Later Saturday morning, WRPS released an update on the situation, saying that the Kitchener man has now been charged with second-degree murder and is awaiting a bail hearing.

WRPS said there will still be an increased police presence in the area as the homicide investigation continues, searching for further witnesses and potential evidence.

They’re asking anyone who may have seen what happened, has details of the incident, or any other additional information to give the WRPS’ Major Crime Unit a call at 519-570-9777, extension 8191.

Tips can also be left anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
