It may be sad news to start the New Year for local designers and sewing enthusiasts alike – Fabricland has announced its Kitchener location will be closing its doors.
A spokesperson has confirmed the closure of the 1352 Weber St. E. location with 570 NewsRadio, after a social media post made by the company’s local branch on Tuesday.
“Thank you for years of inspiration, creativity and support.” reads the farewell message.
“You’ve helped make every bolt, button, and stitch meaningful.”
There are no plans to close remaining western Fabricland locations, located in Welland and St. Catherines.
Customers looking to pick up some last minute goods will have a few months to swoop in, however. In a statement, the director of Fabricland’s head office has indicated that the Kitchener location will remain open until a “somewhat fluid” date of March 31, depending on how long it takes to clear out inventory.
Requests from more information regarding the cause of the closure have been met with no comment. It’s unclear how many local positions will be impacted.
