Two Lexus SUVs targeted for theft in Baden driveways

A patrol unit is canvassing Baden after a theft and attempted theft of vehicles in the community.

According to regional police, officers received reports of stolen vehicles on Dec. 7 around 7:30 a.m. in the areas of Ernhardt Wagner Place and Wagner Avenue.

The vehicles, police said, were Lexus SUVs parked in driveways. One was stolen, and another was abandoned after an attempted theft. The first vehicle was recovered a few hours later outside the region with an anti-theft vehicle tracking system, the press release reads.

Officials are sharing a still image from security footage that shows two suspects in a dark-coloured SUV, believed to be a Dodge Durango. The video, according to police, shows the suspects canvassing multiple vehicles in the community at around 3:30 a.m.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact police.

Officials are sharing the following tips to help people prevent theft of their vehicles:

  • Block access to the onboard diagnostic port to prevent thieves from reprogramming the vehicle’s key fob.
  • Use a steering wheel locking device to deter theft.
  • When not in use, place the vehicle key fob inside a radio frequency shielding bag or pouch to block signals.
  • Consider equipping your vehicle with an aftermarket global positioning system (GPS) tracker to assist police in locating the vehicle and suspects.
  • Ensure all keys are accounted for and never left in the vehicle or unattended.
  • Report suspicious individuals looking into vehicles immediately. Call 9-1-1 for crimes in progress. Non-emergency incidents can be reported online at wrps.on.ca or by calling 519-570-9777.
