‘Your kindness has brought us strength’: Family of missing Eli Wood speaks out

It has been over a month since 25-year-old Eli Wood was last seen.

Wood was reported missing after a fire in the unit they were living in on Major Street in Kitchener back on Oct. 19.

Waterloo Regional Police Services (WRPS) believes foul play was involved in their disappearance, and the fire is being investigated as arson.

Today, over six weeks later, WRPS said they are still working on the case, and cannot release any further details.

“We recognize the significant public interest in this case. However, to protect the integrity of the investigation, we are limited in the information we can share at this time,” reads an update from police. “We want to assure the public that this is a very active and ongoing investigation, and our family liaison officer is in daily contact with Eli’s family to provide updates.”

Wood’s family has also released a statement through Waterloo regional police, asking anyone with legitimate information to come forward.

“We kindly ask everyone in the community to please avoid posting, sharing, or relying on unverified information on social media. Inaccurate information and speculation can cause confusion and stress for our family and can interfere with the ongoing police investigation,” reads the statement.

“We ask that you trust the updates provided directly through police and if you have any information to please share with investigators and not on social media.”

The statement goes on to thank WRPS and the numerous community members for their support.

“The time since Eli’s disappearance has been overwhelming for us, but your kindness has brought us strength. We are especially grateful to those who have respected our privacy and trusted the ongoing police investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Waterloo Regional Police Service at 519-570-9777, extension 8191 or Crime Stoppers.
