Kitchener Toys ‘R’ Us store up for sale

It feels like the beginning of the end for a long-time staple of birthday parties and Christmas mornings in Waterloo Region.
The Toys “R” Us store that has stood for 40 years at the corner of Fairway Road South and Wilson Avenue in Kitchener is on the market.
A large “For Sale” sign has been erected at the busy corner.
For several years, the company has been under financial pressure that has resulted in store closures across the country.
In January, the company announced plans to shutter five locations in Ontario this year, among those, London and Stoney Creek.
Over the summer, the Brantford location closed for good.
It’s unclear what the asking price of the Kitchener property will be. No price is listed on the posting.
It’s also not known when the Kitchener store might close, given that the sale of a building that large could take a while.
