Name Kitchener’s first electric Zamboni

Lightning McClean, Puck Norris, Ice to Meet You – just some options as the City of Kitchener prepares to name its first-ever electric Zamboni.

City staff are looking for your suggestions, hoping to get the brand-new vehicle ice-ready for this winter.

The Zamboni will be specifically for the Carl Zehr Square ice pad, with the winning name “proudly displayed on our Zamboni with a brand-new decal.”

A City of Kitchener spokesperson tells 570 NewsRadio although Zamboni is an American company, the ice resurfacer was manufactured in Canada.

“The Zamboni we purchased was manufactured in Brantford. Zamboni was selected after a public procurement process, which we are required to do as a public sector organization.”

Names can be submitted until Sunday, November 30.

A shortlist of the top suggestions will then be voted on by the community in December, with the winning name announced in the New Year.

Each name-creator can submit up to five names.
