Rangers defeat Firebirds to start 3-in-3 weekend

The Kitchener Rangers began their three-game weekend with a win on Friday night, taking down the Flint Firebirds 4-1.

Tanner Lam got the Rangers on the board at 7:09 into the first period, scoring his fifth goal of the season. That lead was short-lived as Jimmy Lombardi scored for the Firebirds less than two minutes later to even the score.

Both teams remained off the board during the second period, but the Rangers broke the game open in the third with three unanswered goals. Avry Anstis scored his second of the season for the eventual game-winner at 6:34, followed by a power play goal by Cameron Arquette and an empty netter by Christian Humphreys.

Friday’s final score was 4-1.

Humphreys received first star honours following his three point performance, with one goal and two assists. Firebirds netminder Mason Vaccari received second star honours, stopping 37/41 shots he faced. The Rangers set a new season high in shots during Friday’s game.

The Rangers will travel to Barrie on Saturday to take on the Colts before returning to the Aud on Sunday to welcome the North Bay Battalion.

Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.
