Break-in at Cambridge jewellery store causes significant damage

No priceless jewels were stolen — unlike at the Louvre heist earlier this week — but a Cambridge business did sustain significant damage after a break-in.

According to Waterloo regional police, officers were called in the early hours of Oct. 23 for a commercial break-in. They responded to the area of Conestoga Boulevard and Sheldon Drive in Cambridge, where several jewellery stores are located.

Police said that at 12:30 a.m., four males entered the store after prying open a security door. Once inside, they smashed a display case, but police said no items were reported stolen.

As a result of the break-in, the business sustained significant damage, with police noting in a press release that repair costs are around $15,000.

Officials are asking anyone with information to come forward and contact police at 519-570-977.

This isn’t the first time this area of Cambridge was targeted by theives.

In May, police launched an investigation after a weekend break-and-enter at a commercial business. Unknown suspects entered the business in the Sheldon Drive area and made off with over $800,000 worth of property.
