Bad apple: Guelph woman arrested for theft from local orchard

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

Waterloo regional police have arrested an apparent ‘bad apple’ after a theft at a local orchard.

Police confirmed that officers were called to Shuh Orchards on Line 86 in West Montrose on Sunday due to a reported theft.

The owners told police that they watched a woman remove apples from a designated picking bag and load them into her car’s trunk.

Officers weighed all the apples in the woman’s possession and confirmed she had an extra 39 pounds that she did not pay for.

Police later arrested a 39-year-old Guelph woman. She is charged with theft under $5,000 and will appear in court in October.

The owners of Shuh Orchards have raised concerns about a sharp rise in thefts this season, which prompted them to tighten rules to try and stop the trend.
