Driver admits a banana caused Guelph crash

A snack nearly turned deadly for a Guelph driver Wednesday morning.

Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police responded to the single-vehicle collision on Highway 7 around 8:00 a.m.

A vehicle had crossed the center line, went into the opposite ditch and struck a tree.

The driver admitted to police he was reaching for a banana on the passenger seat when he lost control.

The 51-year-old Guelph man was taken to hospital with minor injuries. He was charged with careless driving.

There is no indication yet if he plans to appeal.
