Man charged in ‘hate motivated’ attack in Waterloo

A Waterloo man is facing assault charges, in what police are calling a hate-motivated incident.

It happened in broad daylight. Regional police were called out to the Albert Street and Quiet Place area, north of Bearinger Road, around noon, Sunday.

Police allege a 55-year-old man from Waterloo approached up to four victims, making racial and derogatory comments towards them.

The suspect then allegedly assaulted three of them, and damaged their property. No injuries were reported.

The male suspect is now facing charges including three counts of assault, mischief, and uttering threats.
