The Kitchener Panthers are rounding out the month with a three-game road trip hoping for a bit of luck.
It comes as the Panthers have been battling through a rough stretch, losing eight of their last nine games, currently sitting with a 6-13 record and holding eighth in the standings.
“We came out strong, had a good start to the season. Recently we’ve been scuffling a little bit, but we’ve seen a lot of things that we like and we feel like we’re very close to where we need to be,” President and General Manager Shanif Hirani said. “We have some plans in the works to try and supplement our roster and get exactly where we need to go.”
Hirani mentioned that even with those losses it can all turn on a dime thanks to how the league is constructed.
“The unique thing about the league is there are only nine teams, so standings can change week to week pretty drastically,” he said. “The middle of the standings, I would say, is very clumped together. So if we can put together a good weekend here and carry that momentum into next week, we can definitely make a pretty quick jump.”
He said the season hasn’t been all bad. In fact the team experienced a bit of everything through the first half of the season. Hirani specifically noted the positive direction seen in the team’s pitching staff.
“Our pitching staff struggled a little bit at the beginning of the season, but we’ve been seeing a lot more of what we’ve been looking for, a lot more strikes being thrown, and they seem to be settling in. They are ready to turn the corner here, coming soon.”
The Panthers now prepare to head to Brantford on Sunday to battle the Red Sox before heading to Guelph to battle the Royals for their big Canada Day game.
Game time for Sunday’s matchup is set for 2 p.m.
