The smoke from wildfires burning across the country has made its way through Waterloo Region over the last few days.
570 meteorologist Carl Lam said there is some good news in terms of air quality. A south easterly wind is expected to push some of that smoke away from the region and back to where the fires are burning.
“With that wind, it will start to move us from that moderate risk category back into the low risk category as we go into tonight and especially for tomorrow,” said Lam.
He adds that some rain and possible thunderstorms for Monday will also help bring down the level of smoke in the air going into Tuesday. However, he notes that we can expect some more smoke by the middle of this week, then clearing by the weekend.
As of Sunday morning, the Environment Canada Air Quality Health Index is sitting at a four, showing a moderate risk.
