A Cambridge mom believes the generosity of the community has left her spirit feeling renewed.
Leanne Laur has been battling cervical cancer for several years while caring for her two children as a single mom.
It’s been a very difficult few years with several setbacks including an overdose on chemotherapy but Laur was defiant and kept a brave face through all the struggles.
When the roof on her home fell into disrepair, Laur wasn’t sure how she could afford to replace it.
An old work colleague and friend, Jamie Colwell and her brother Matt got to work contacting local roofing companies and not for profits to see if anyone would be willing to help.
Colwell had worked for Garcia Roofing in the past, they along with GAF Roofing and ABC Supply jumped in on the initiative with added support from the River Dali Foundation.
Together, a group of volunteers showed up at Laur’s house and had the roof replaced in a matter of hours.
Laur told The Mike Farwell Show the generosity she has been shown has left her with a loss for words.
“I’ve had such a negative story and negative history, so to have somebody give the opportunity of care, of human kindness, which all is all I wanted, it leaves me speechless right now.”
“This relief, honestly has almost repurposed me. The repurpose I’ve been looking for for the last seven years since the overdose. It was such a traumatic situation that happened to me, I didn’t want other women to feel, traumatized in what happened. I wanted them to somehow feel inspired,” she said. “This story gives me the repurpose that hope is coming because we all see it and we all feel it now, and sensations are out there and we just need to keep spreading it.”
