Guelph man charged for brandishing a knife in a store

A Guelph man is facing charges for allegedly pulling a knife at a store when he was asked about what he was putting into a plastic bag.

Guelph police were called out to a store near Victoria Road North and Grange Road, around 9:15 a.m. on Monday.

They said staff had spotted a man putting items into a bag, and came up to him, asking to see what was inside.

Police said the man pulled out a knife and gestured towards the employees, then left the store.

The store owner followed the suspect for a while, but then the suspect came up to him, again with a knife in hand.

Officers quickly found the 33-year-old Guelph man and made the arrest.

The charges are assault with a weapon, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, theft under $5,000, and breaching a probation order.

Guelph Police confirm to 570 NewsRadio there were no injuries.
