Woman in Guelph chases thieves to get her money back

A woman in Guelph had no intention of being a victim of a distraction theft and chased down her would-be thieves until she got her cash back.

Guelph Police were called out to a bank in the Eramosa Road and Stevenson Street North area, late Tuesday afternoon.

They said a woman had just come out of the bank, put her purse in her car, and was about to leave when she saw a man behind her car calling out for her attention.

Police said he was yelling about there being something wrong with her car, and was pointing at some wires hanging down.

While the woman was out of her car checking what that was all about, she noticed another man go into her car, and he took a envelope of cash she had just withdrawn.

The woman, in her 60s, told police she chased both men through the parking lot until she found the envelope on the ground, and the cash was still inside.

Police said both suspects were described as possibly Middle Eastern, one in his 40s, “with a large belly” and wearing a white t-shirt.

The second was in his 20s, tall, and was wearing a baseball cap and black medical mask.

Police said the two fled the scene in a white SUV.
