Waterloo Regional Police Association and board renew five-year contract

As far as contract negotiations go, these wrapped up fairly quickly.

The Waterloo Regional Police Services Board (WRPSB) and the Waterloo Regional Police Association (WRPA) have ratified new five year collective agreements for both uniform and civilian members.

Negotiations began back in January and wrapped up April 7, with a tentative agreement.

Some of the highlights include:

  • Cost of living adjustments that will be applied over the term of the contract
  • Health and wellness benefit adjustments
  • A promise to address allowances, premiums and to modernize existing language about those issues

Specific numbers were not included in the press release from police.

The contract is retroactive to Jan. 1, 2025 and expires Dec. 31, 2029

In the press release, WRPSB Chair, Ian McLean said, “These agreements provide necessary flexibility while respecting our financial responsibilities and ensuring competitive compensation to attract and retain the best for Waterloo Region.”

Police Chief Mark Crowell echoed those sentiments, “These collective agreements recognize the vital contributions of our Uniform and Civilian members, ensuring the stability needed to continue delivering exceptional policing services that meet the evolving needs of our community.”
