Upcoming WCDSB meeting being moved because of election, expected protesters

By CityNews Kitchener Staff

There’s a change of plans for the next meeting of the Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB), which will see a contentious motion involving Pride flags discussed.

The school board says the meeting scheduled for Monday, April 28, will be relocated.

It’s because of a controversial motion that could lead to a ban on flying Pride flags at local Catholic schools.

The proposed move has already prompted protests and counter-protests at previous meetings, and it’s expected that will happen again on the 28th, which is also election night.

The school board says its Catholic Education Centre, where the meetings are typically held, is adjacent to a polling station.

“The relocation has been made in the spirit of being good neighbours and to help ensure unimpeded access for voters,” reads a notice from the WCDSB.

The Monday night meeting has been moved to Resurrection Catholic Secondary School.
