Fraudster enters Guelph home and refuses to leave kitchen until paid

Police in the Royal City are on the search for a suspected fraudster after a resident was led to believe they owed money in Guelph’s north end on Thursday.

It was around 5 p.m. when police said the victim heard a knock at their door, only to be greeted by an unknown man who stated they owed $4,500 on a loan that they had taken from the government.

The situation got more bizarre, as before the victim could respond, the man entered their home, sat at the kitchen table and refused to leave until they were given a cheque for the proposed amount.

That man then left the home and was seen leaving the area in a white two-door Toyota car.

Police said that the suspect was described as a white male, roughly 5’4″ tall with black bushy hair.

They said he was wearing jeans and a black jacket with white lettering or a logo that read “AC.”

Anyone with information that could assist Guelph Police is asked to contact Constable Geoffrey Hiebert at 519-824-1212 ext. 7290.

Anonymous tips can also be provided through Crime Stoppers.
