The Kitchener Rangers are in Windsor on Thursday night to kick off their Round 2 playoff series against the Spitfires.
The Blueshirts and Spitfires both dominated their opponents in Round 1 of the OHL playoffs, but enter an incredibly even series. In the regular season, these two sides met four times, with each team winning two games apiece.
“If we do our thing, and we play in the right way, and our special teams are working, I think we have a good chance,” said Rangers Head Coach Jussi Ahokas.
Rangers forward Trent Swick led the charge on offence in the first round, racking up 9 points in just five games.
“Some of the bounces went our way, I don’t think we really changed that much, I think we just played a lot harder on the forecheck and just buried a lot more of our chances,” said Swick about the Rangers scoring in Round 1.
The Spitfires are also a high-flying, offensive outfit. During the regular season, Windsor forwards Ilya Protas and Liam Greentree were amongst the top scorers in the OHL.
“Greentree and Protas are two top guys in this league,” said Swick. “We have to be aware of them whenever they’re on the ice, and our penalty kill needs to do what it did in Round 1 and shut their powerplay down.”
The Rangers return home to The Aud for Game 3 of the series on Monday.
