GRT ‘aware of incidents’ involving man riding on top of buses

By Erin Anderson

You may have seen photos and videos circulating on social media this week, showing a man riding on top of Grand River Transit (GRT) buses.

The transit agency says it’s aware of the incidents and is issuing a public safety reminder. The social media posts appear to feature the same individual, and GRT is hoping it doesn’t become a trend.

“We urge the public to refrain from these activities as they pose significant safety risks,” said a statement from the local transit agency.

GRT added this kind of behaviour could result in a ban from accessing transit services and properties.

Waterloo regional police were also notified about the bus rider last week.

“On April 11, 2025, at approximately 2 p.m., police responded to reports of an individual on the roof of a moving Grand River Transit bus in Cambridge.”

Police said the 24-year-old was “educated of the laws and significant safety impact of the stunt,” but no charges were laid.
