Thousands of Conservative supporters flocked to the Region of Waterloo International Airport on Thursday evening as Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre held a “Canada First” rally in Breslau.
The airline hanger was packed with eager supporters looking to hear from the Conservative leader. Cars were parked on the side of the road as far as a kilometre away from where the rally took place.
Several local candidates running on the conservative ticket were in attendance at the rally, including for Cambridge, Waterloo, Kitchener Centre, and Kitchener South—Hespeler.
During his almost hour-long speech, Poilievre spoke highly of Waterloo Region, saying it is one of the most “inventive, innovative and entrepreneurial” areas on the planet.
“This is one of the greatest entrepreneurial and technological centres in the world,” said Poilievre. “With people like these, we can reverse the ‘lost Liberal decade’ and make Canada the richest country on Earth for a change.”
In an appeal to workers and tradespeople in the room, Poilievre said the people of Waterloo Region are hardworking and “put their shoulder to the wheel.”

“Connie Cody was telling me many of these people in Cambridge have been crying on her shoulder, telling stories of how stressed they are trying to make ends meet,” said Poilievre.
The cost of housing was heavily focused on during the rally. Poilievre echoed his party’s intention to cut local development taxes and GST on houses, which he says would save $100,000 on the average home.
“You can actually buy a castle in Scotland or Sweden for lower than the cost of a house in Kitchener,” said Poilievre.
He also spoke about how his party would address the opioid crisis, the immigration system, crime, border security and the military.
Earlier in the day, Poilievre was in Milton, where he made the announcement on tax cuts for housing. Meanwhile, Liberal Leader Mark Carney was in Brampton, and NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh was in Saskatoon.
Poilievre is the second major party leader to make a campaign stop in Waterloo Region, after Carney held a rally in Kitchener two weeks ago.
