Following a wet weekend with steady rainfall, the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) has issued a flood warning for West Montrose.
According to the GRCA, river flows in West Montrose are expected to reach the “Flood Warning Zone 1” threshold on Monday night.
Municipal flood coordinators in Woolwich Township have been tasked with notifying affected properties and will continue to monitor conditions.
The flood warning for West Montrose is expected to remain in place until 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 5.
The rest of the Grand River watershed remains under a watershed conditions statement for water safety due to the ongoing runoff, elevated flows, and hazards.
“Banks adjacent to local waterways are very slippery and, when combined with cold, fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard,” read the flood message from the GRCA. “Any ice-covered bodies of water are considered unsafe. Parents are reminded to keep children and pets away from all water bodies.”
