Guelph Police Service officers responded to Waverley Drive Public School on Friday morning after there was an alleged threat to the school.
Police say they were contacted just after 8:30 a.m. as a threatening message was left on the elementary school’s answering machine.
Out of an abundance of caution, students and staff were kept outside of the school and evacuated to nearby École élémentaire L’Odyssée.
“We have been sending messages to families throughout the morning letting them know that students are safe at L’Odyssée,” the Upper Grand District School Board said in a statement. “Parents who are able to do so are welcome to come pick up their child, as we don’t have an estimated time of how long the students will be out of Waverley today.”
Guelph police searched the public school, with help from the Waterloo Regional Police Service’s canine unit. Nothing suspicious was located.
The investigation is ongoing.
Students and staff were allowed to return to Waverley Public School shortly after 12:30 p.m.
