Region of Waterloo (ROW) Public Health has issued suspension orders to almost 9,000 elementary school students.
Back in November and December, public health sent more than 12,000 notices to families who had elementary-aged children with outdated vaccination records.
While that number has been reduced since then, there’s still thousands of remaining students who have yet to comply.
Public health issued a total of 8,981 suspension orders as of Feb. 4.
Families have the next five weeks to submit updated records or a valid exemption, or their children will face suspension as of April 2.
The routine vaccinations are required under the Immunization of School Pupils Act and include protection against Measles, which is currently circulating in southern Ontario.
