The Kitchener Rangers have announced they’ve signed their coaching staff to contract extensions.
Jussi Ahokas (Head Coach), Jeff Kyrzakos (Associate Coach and Assistant GM) and Brad Flynn (Assistant Coach) will now be with the junior hockey team for two more seasons.
As of Feb. 19, the Kitchener Rangers sit with the second most points in the OHL with a record of 38-13-4-1, good for 81 points. They trail only the London Knights with 87 points.
The 2024-25 season is Ahokas’ second as the Rangers head coach and he will lead the team to the playoffs once again, having already clinched a spot.
Rangers’ General Manager (GM) Mike McKenzie says it’s a pleasure working with Jussi Ahokas.
“Jussi has done a tremendous job leading our team over the past season-and-a-half. The results speak for themselves but behind the scenes he has done a great job with the development of our players and creating a fun but hard-driving, accountable and winning culture,” he said.
Kyrzakos is also in his second full season behind the bench with the Rangers, he will continue to work with McKenzie and Assistant GM Michael Zsolt.
Prior to his time with the Rangers, Flynn spent time coaching in all three Canadian Hockey League (CHL) leagues. McKenzie credits the team’s success to Flynn’s work with the defence and penalty kill.
The Rangers next play on Friday at The Aud against the Barrie Colts. Listen to the game live on 570 NewsRadio Kitchener.
