Kitchener Rangers win shootout thriller against Soo Greyhounds

The scoring summary reads like a Hollywood script, but the Kitchener Rangers comeback win against the Soo Greyhounds was even greater than fiction.

With less than a minute left in the second period, the Kitchener Rangers were trailing the Hounds 4-1, but a goal from Blueshirts winger Matthew Hlacar sparked the comeback.

Three unanswered goals from the Rangers forced overtime and eventually a shootout, where it took a thrilling 15 frames for Rangers forward Chris Grisolia to notch the game-sealing goal. 5-4 the final in favour of the Blueshirts.

That’s the Rangers fourth win in a row, and third win against the team from the Soo this season.

Kitchener’s 16-year-old backup netminder Jason Schaubel started between the pipes in place of Jackson Parsons and put together an impressive performance, especially in the shootout where he turned aside 13 shots.

The Rangers continue their five-game road trip on Friday with a trip to Michigan, taking on the Flint Firebirds on Friday and the Saginaw Spirit on Saturday.
