Rangers renew rivalry against Knights; Toronto prospect looks to make history

This will be the third meeting this season between these long time rivals and neither have gone the Rangers’ way.

The first game back on Nov. 19 ended in a 3-1 London win. The next meeting on Dec. 15 was a little closer but still, Kitchener ended up on the wrong side of a 3-2 final.

Through it all, the top of the OHL’s Western Conference Standings remains a three-horse race with the Knights out-front with 69 points, followed by the Spitfires in second with 65 points and the Rangers in third with 64 points.

The Rangers have cooled a bit of late, posting just two wins in their last five games. But really, it’s only cool compared to London who has won nine of their last 11 matches.

Knights forward and Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowen now has a 60-game regular season point streak after picking up three points in London’s 8-1 drubbing of the Sudbury Wolves, on Sunday night.

If Cowan records a point on Tuesday night, he’ll tie the legendary Mario Lemieux for the most consecutive regular-season games with at least one point in the history of the Canadian Hockey League. Lemieux performed the feat while playing for Laval in the QMJHL during the 1980s.

After tonight, the Rangers will rest-up ahead of a meeting with the Owen Sound Attack at home Friday night and then take a trip to Erie to tangle with the Otters, Saturday.

Mike Farwell and Paul Fixter bring you all of tonight’s action, live on 570 NewsRadio, beginning with the pregame show at 6:30 p.m.
