Vote on Kitchener’s official bird

Kitchener is now officially a bird-friendly city! Now, the city is asking you to get involved.

Nature Canada made the designation at City Council Monday night, due to the city’s “ongoing efforts to reduce critical threats to birds, population monitoring, education and stewardship.”

So what is your role?

The city is asking for those of you living in Kitchener, to vote on what the city’s official bird should be.

There are four options: the loud and dramatic Killdeer, the zippy and energetic Dark-Eyed Junco, the Merlin, a fierce falcon, or the small and nible Chimney Swift.

The goal of the contest is to “generating enthusiasm for local bird conservation,” says the city in a release.

You can have your say on the flying fun here.
