Group of costumed ‘gorillas’ shoot trick-or-treaters with pellets in Guelph

By Erin Anderson

Guelph police are trying to track down a group of costumed “gorillas” who allegedly shot multiple trick-or-treaters with pellets on Halloween.

Police were called to Morningcrest Park around 8:15 p.m. on Thursday after a mother said her 12-year-old daughter and a friend were shot with plastic pellets from an Airsoft gun.

Another mom then told officers her six-year-old son and his friends were approached by a group of males in the same park, who asked if the youngsters had candy, before shooting them multiple times.

Police said several other people in the neighbourhood have come forward and provided similar accounts.

All of the victims were shot repeatedly in the torso, neck, and arms, but none of them required medical attention.

The suspects are described as a group of about 10 males who were wearing gorilla costumes, except for one who was dressed in a ghillie suit — which is camouflage clothing designed to look like foliage.

Guelph police continue to investigate. Any tips can be provided to Constable Carson Skipper by phone at 519-824-1212 ext. 7283, or by email at cskipper@guelphpolice.ca. Anonymous tips can be left with Crime Stoppers.
