Police arrest Kitchener man in stolen memorial plaque investigation

Waterloo Regional Police have arrested and charged a Kitchener man after several memorial plaques were stolen from a tennis club in Cambridge.

According to police, people from a local business came to them Oct. 30 with seven copper memorial plaques they believed to have been stolen.

Turns out, they were right.

Regional police say those plaques were traced back to benches at the Victoria Park Tennis Club in West Galt.

On Wednesday, police arrested a 52-year-old man from Kitchener in relation to the seven stolen plaques and officers seized an additional plague from Kitchener on his person.

He has been charged with two counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and trafficking in stolen goods under $5,000.

Those plaques have since been returned to the City of Cambridge and the City of Kitchener.

Anyone with more information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
