KW Oktoberfest releases final numbers on 2024 Onkel Hans Food Drive

The food has been collected and the numbers have been finalized for the 2024 Onkel Hans Food Drive.

According to KW Oktoberfest, the drive collected 7,854 pounds of food and $11,018 in cash or online donations, equaling to 28,161 meals.

Food and monetary donations were collected between the Thanksgiving Day parade on Oct. 14 and two Stuff-a-Bus events during a Kitchener Rangers game on Oct. 5 and at two grocery stores on Oct. 6. KW Oktoberfest said in a press release that the numbers are “back on par with contributions made through pre-pandemic campaigns.”

This year’s drive is a gain compared to last year, which gathered 9,981 pounds of food and $6,057 in cash, or 19,911 meals.

Kim Wilhelm, the CEO of the Food Bank of Waterloo, called this year’s statistics “truly remarkable.”

“It does go to show the generosity of community and how willing they are to respond,” said Wilhelm. “Waterloo Region is truly an incredible community and I’m so grateful that everyone is coming together to help feed our neighbours.”

On Monday, the Food Bank of Waterloo Region will release its 2024 Community Impact Report and celebrate its 40th anniversary.
